Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has announced May 3 as the reporting date for Form One students.

Speaking on Monday during the release of the election results at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) Nairobi, Cs Magoha said that the candidates had been placed in 9,200 public schools countrywide, assuring that all pupils will transition to secondary school.

He also said that more than 800 students in informal settlements have been selected for national and extra county schools on merit.

The Cs also revealed that 38,797 candidates were placed in national schools, 214,960 in the extra county, 258,456 in county schools, 726,311 in Sub-county schools, and 2,045 in special needs schools.

He, however, noted that a number of KCPE candidates did not get proper guidance on school selection and urged parents and teachers to do more to help.

Meanwhile, Magoha directed chiefs and sub-chiefs to oversee the construction of CBC classrooms and also ensure that all students are enrolled in Form One.

The CS directed school principals to allow students with fees challenges to clear their arrears later.

Magoha announced that the government will provide 9,000 scholarships to underprivileged students, in accordance with the government’s 100% transition strategy.

However, he said that students from urban informal settlements will be given preference for 4,000 scholarships.

The CS also said that bursaries should be directed to needy children and those in boarding schools only as the government caters to children in day schools.

CS Magoha insisted that this year’s Form 1 selection was conducted digitally and those who are unable to access the instructions via text can visit the Education ministry’s website.

Parents of the over 1.2 million candidates should send the pupil’s index number to 22263 to get secondary school joining instructions.
