A community in Olando village, Homa Bay County, is in mourning after a brutal nighttime attack left a teenage girl dead and her younger brother seriously injured.
The victim, Alphins Opuodho, a Form Three student at St. Joseph’s Olando Mixed Secondary School, was allegedly stabbed to death by a man said to be her boyfriend in a horrifying incident that occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday night.
According to Kibwer Sub-location Assistant Chief Richard Okinyi, the suspect stormed the house where Alphins and her Grade Six brother were sleeping. The attacker reportedly stabbed the girl multiple times in the back and head before turning on her younger brother. The boy sustained serious injuries to his hand, abdomen, and head.
It is suspected that a disagreement between the girl and the man earlier in the day may have triggered the fatal assault.
Horrified family members and neighbors, alerted by the children’s screams, rushed to the scene and transported the two siblings to Magunga Level Four Hospital. Tragically, Alphins was pronounced dead on arrival. Her brother remains hospitalized in critical condition.
The assistant chief stated that the suspect’s identity is still unknown, as the victim’s family had not previously met or identified him. “We are working closely with police officers in an ongoing manhunt to apprehend the perpetrator,” Okinyi said.
The girl’s body was transferred to St. Camillus Hospital Mortuary as investigations continue.
The tragic incident has shocked residents of the quiet village, with many calling for swift justice and enhanced security measures to protect vulnerable members of the community, especially young women.
Police have urged anyone with information about the suspect to come forward as they intensify efforts to track him down.
