Former Cabinet Secretary for Performance Management and Public Service, Moses Kuria, has criticized the recently dismissed Cabinet, claiming it was already defective and struggling to function effectively.
Speaking to Citizen TV on Sunday, Kuria highlighted difficulties in conducting business and hosting committee meetings within the Cabinet.
“We had problems even to hold cabinet committees, and I would like to give the President a chance to reform his government,” Kuria stated, adding that the Cabinet should have been dissolved long before President William Ruto fired the Cabinet Secretaries.
Kuria also expressed support for President Ruto’s plan to create an inclusive Cabinet to unite all Kenyans. This follows Ruto’s hint at collaborating with the Azimio coalition in upcoming Cabinet appointments.
Additionally, Kuria apologized to Kenyan youth, acknowledging he had underestimated the Gen-Z movement’s impact. “Gen Zs have proven me wrong. They have shown that they can become an important engine in taking this country forward. If God tells me to close my eyes and make a wish, I would want to be Gen Z,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, former Youth and Sports Affairs CS, Ababu Namwamba, defended his tenure, citing significant achievements such as Kenya’s successful bid to host the 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the Harambee Junior Starlets qualifying for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
“I believe I have done a fantastic job. We have revived sports, got FIFA to lift the suspension of football, and we have AFCON coming to Kenya for the first time,” Namwamba stated.
The shake-up and ensuing discussions underscore the challenges and opportunities facing President Ruto’s administration as it seeks to unify and advance the nation.
