Former DP Gachagua Claims Security Agencies Tried to Poison Him Twice

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed alarming claims of two assassination attempts on his life prior to a plan for his impeachment.

Speaking after being discharged from Karen Hospital on Sunday, Gachagua alleged that these attempts, purportedly linked to security agencies, paved the way for political machinations against him.

The first alleged attempt occurred on August 30 in Kisumu, where Gachagua claims undercover agents entered his hotel room, bugged it, and attempted to poison his food.

“We detected the poison and managed to escape the scheme,” he stated. He emphasized that his life was reportedly at risk due to food poisoning, which was thwarted by his vigilant team.

Just a few days later, on September 3, Gachagua asserted that another group from the National Intelligence Service (NIS) tried once again to poison food intended for him and the Kikuyu council of elders during an event in Nyeri.

“I reported this to NIS and asked the officers assigned to my office to leave because I felt I was not safe,” he explained.

Gachagua believes that after both assassination attempts failed, an impeachment motion against him was concocted.

He expressed that his ongoing prosecution is a consequence of his fearless stance on various issues, including government orders to evict individuals from riparian land in Nairobi and his opposition to the controversial lease of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to the Indian-owned Adani Company.
