A former employee of Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) has been charged at the Milimani Law Courts over the alleged theft of more than Ksh1.1 million from the bank.
Amos Kahuro Njuguna was arraigned before the Chief Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, where he faced a charge of stealing by servant, contrary to Section 281 of the Penal Code.
According to the charge sheet, Njuguna is accused of stealing ksh1,117,375.45 on diverse dates between September 20, 2025 and December 30, 2025, while employed at DTB’s Nairobi head office.
Prosecutors allege that the money belonged to Diamond Trust Bank Kenya Limited and came into his possession by virtue of his employment.
The prosecution also preferred an alternative charge of handling stolen property, contrary to Section 322(1)(2) of the Penal Code.
Under the alternative count, Njuguna is accused of dishonestly receiving the same amount while knowing, or having reason to believe, that it was stolen.
Njuguna pleaded not guilty to both counts.
During submissions on bail, the defence urged the court to grant lenient terms, while the prosecution opposed any reduction, arguing that the amount involved and the nature of the offence justified strict conditions.
After considering the arguments from both sides, the court granted Njuguna a bond of Ksh1 million or an alternative cash bail of ksh500,000.
He remains in custody pending the fulfilment of the bail terms.
The case has been scheduled for pre-trial on January 21, 2026.
