Former Embu DCIO Convicted for Sexually Assaulting Suspect In His Office

Former Embu North DCIO Jerevasio Njeru, has been convicted by the High Court over the offense of rape in what appears to be a turn of events given the fact that he was initially acquitted by a Lower Court.

The High court set aside the magistrate decision that had set him free saying the lower Court had overlooked material evidence in the case leading to the acquittal of the accused.

Njeru had been charged that on May 31, 2020, at around 5pm, he raped a 42-year-old woman at Manyatta Police Station.

However, after the trial, the Magistrate Court ruled that the prosecution had not proved their case beyond reasonable doubt, hence acquitting the accused.

The High Court, in setting aside the lower court decision ruled that the charges of rape have been proven only that some evidence were never considered.

The court noted that the learned magistrate chose to ignore the cogent evidence by way of DNA that linked the accused to the offence without a doubt, thus causing a lot of injustice to the complainant by acquitting the former officer.

Further, the judge noted that the former DCIO lured the complainant into his office and took advantage of her, knowing that she was subordinate to him and that she wouldn’t report the matter.
