Collins Okoth, popularly known as Gatuso and a former player for Gor Mahia and the Harambee Stars, will remain in custody until December as the High Court prepares to hear his bail application.
Gatuso is facing serious charges of murdering three-year-old Pamela Atieno, also known as Scovian Maya, in an incident that reportedly occurred between April 21 and 22 at Kwetu Apartments in Sinai, Lucky Summer estate, Nairobi.
Accompanied by co-accused Sylvia Aoko, Gatuso has pleaded not guilty to the murder charges before Justice Esther Maina at the Milimani Law Courts.
The latest proceedings, held under Justice Alexander Muteti, centered on a bond application; however, they were postponed due to the prosecution’s unpreparedness in submitting their opposing affidavits.
Furthermore, the prosecution cited the unavailability of a pre-bail report, which Justice Muteti noted had already been filed with the court.
As proceedings continue, the bond application hearing is scheduled for December 2, 2024, just ahead of the trial set for December 3.
Justice Muteti instructed both the prosecution and defense to submit their paperwork in preparation for the hearing. Gatuso will remain at the Industrial Area Remand Prison while Aoko is held at Lang’ata Women’s Prison.
Defense attorneys Geoffrey Omenke and Kamau Waweru expressed their readiness to argue for their clients’ release but will have to wait until December to do so.
