Former Kitui Senator David Musila Quits Active Politics.

The former Kitui Senator and Wiper Party National Chairman David Musila, popularly known in the Ukambani region as “Bwana Meko”, publicly announced his exit from active elective politics at his rural home in Migwani, Mwingi West Constituency on Saturday, December 27, 2025, after 29 years in politics.

In his declaration, Musila said that he consulted with his family on his decision to step aside and they collectively agreed.

Musila had initially declared his interest to contest for Kitui Gubernatorial seat in 2027 after two unsuccessful bids for the same seat in 2017 and 2022.

In his speech, Musila stated, “I want to retire from politics, and I have had a conversation with my family over the same, and they have agreed with my decision to exit from active elective politics.”

Musila who served as the first Kitui Senator from 2013 to 2017 stated that he will champion Ukambani region to support President William Ruto for his re-election bid in 2027 and so as to ensure the region benefits from the government.

He further stated that politics of one-term cannot bring any developments to the region and that he is not in one-term block of leaders claiming he want developments for his people.

Musila who fell apart with Wiper leader in 2017 dismissed the former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka’s claims that he was the one who launched the Kitui-Kibwezi road.

Further, the former senator explained how he brought together the Members of Parliament from the region then, including the then Mwingi West MP Benard Kitungi, Kitui Central MP Makali Mulu, Kitui Rural MP Charles Nyamai and Kitui South MP Rachel Kaki Nyamai, to fight for the same road and not Kalonzo.

Musila has been in active elective politics since 1996.
