Kenya National Union of Teachers’ (KNUT) first national Vice-Chairperson Stanley Mutai is dead.
According to KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu, Mutau passed while undergoing cancer treatment at a Nairobi hospital.
“It is true that Mr. Mutai succumbed to an illness while undergoing treatment at the Nairobi hospital where he was admitted. It is a very sad moment for us as a union, the teachers of this country, and the education sector,” Oyuu told the media.
Mutai was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago, Oyuu says.
The death of Mr. Mutai comes two months after KNUT’s second vice-chairman John Wesonga also succumbed to cancer at Nairobi West Hospital where he was receiving treatment.
