Former Machakos MP Victor Munyaka Declines Ruto Appointment

Former Machakos Town MP Victor Munyaka, a notable ally of President William Ruto, has made headlines by declining an appointment as chairperson of the Kenya Animal Genetic Resource Centre board.

The decision, which has sparked considerable discussion in the region, was attributed to the escalating political tensions within the Kenya Kwanza administration.

In a statement released on Sunday, Dr. Munyaka expressed concern over the current political climate, stating that it jeopardizes the government’s economic transformation agenda.

“After soul-searching and extensive consultations, I have made the difficult decision to respectfully decline this appointment,” he asserted, highlighting the divisive atmosphere affecting the administration.

During an interview with Nation, Dr. Munyaka lamented the ongoing disagreements between President Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, stating that the infighting was detrimental to loyal members of the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

“What the Kenya Kwanza administration principals are doing is devastating, especially to those of us in the Kenya Kwanza family,” he remarked, urging the President and his deputy to resolve their differences.

Dr. Munyaka’s decision to turn down the plum position comes just weeks after he criticized President Ruto for allegedly sidelining the Kamba community in government appointments and development initiatives.

He underscored the significant contribution of the Kamba region to Ruto’s electoral success, having delivered over 250,000 votes, and called for increased recognition of the community’s efforts.

In recent remarks, he pointed out the notable loss of key positions held by Kamba leaders, including former executives from various state agencies. Dr. Munyaka acknowledged the President’s consideration for the appointment and wished him success.
