Mathew Lempurkel the former Laikipia North MP was charged afresh today morning over hate speech allegations.
The Former MP is said to have made divisive remarks on the 17th of July 2021 while in a Television show aired by maa TV.
The prosecution claim that Mr. Lempurkel uttered abusive and threatening words towards members of the Kikuyu Community.
“Kure opa kule tung’anak oji larel ne marginalise yiok, likokoyo surely, meeta toki naishori yiok” Lempurkel said which translates to ‘those people known as buffaloes marginalized us, kikuyu surely, no anything to be given to us.
These words are said to have caused ethnic hatred in Laikipia County.
Further, Lempurkel is said to have uttered threatening words on the same date in maa TV show where he claimed that Laikipia has white people who have vast land.
All these utterances are said to have caused a blood shed ethnic hatred in Laikipia County.
Nevertheless, he denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of Ksh 150,000.
The former Lawmakers has frequently found himself on the wrong side of the law over assault and hate speech cases.
On November 12th 2021 he was sentenced to serve one year in prison for assaulting lawmaker Sarah Korere.
He appealed the judgement and on 20th December 2021 the Court released him on a cash bail of Ksh 100,000 pending the appeal on his conviction.
His case will be mentioned on 15th February 2022.
