Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan Shot During a Protest

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has been shot in the leg in what his supporters say was an assassination attempt.

According to Pakistani media reports, a gunman opened fire while Khan was giving a speech to supporters at a rally in Wazirabad.

The sitting PM Shehbaz Sharif has confirmed the shooting, condemning the perpetrators.

“I condemn the incident of firing on PTI Chairman Imran Khan in the strongest words. I have directed Interior Minister for an immediate report on the incident,” Sharif said.

“I pray for the recovery and health of PTI chairman and other injured people.”

He added that the Federal government will extend all support necessary to the Punjab government for security and investigation.

“Violence should have no place in our country’s politics,” he said.
