Former President Mwai Kibaki will be laid to rest next Saturday, on April 30, at his Othaya home, in Nyeri County.
The announcement was made by Interior CS Fred Matiang’i on Saturday.
He was accompanied by Mzee Kibaki’s family members.
Kibaki will be accorded a state funeral with the highest honours, which will be held at Nyayo Stadium on Friday, April 29.
Before that, Kibaki’s body will lie in state at the National Assembly for three days, from Monday to Wednesday.
Members of the diplomatic corps will be allowed to visit the family at his office in Nyari, Nairobi.
A facility will also be set up in the Othaya CDF office for members of the public to pay their condolences and fill the condolence book.
The government formed a National Funeral Steering Committee to take charge of the burial activities.
President Uhuru Kenyatta officially announced Kibaki’s death on Friday in a televised address at State House, Nairobi, further directing that the country observe a period of national mourning until sunset of the day of his interment.
