The Kenyan football fraternity is mourning the demise of the former Tusker, Nzoia Sugar, Bidco United, and Kakamega Homeboyz defender, who has passed away at the age of 33.
According to a report from his club on Sunday, April 19, 2026, the defender succumbed to injuries sustained after he was struck by a car in Busia County.
The Kenya Footballers Welfare Association (KEFWA) has confirmed the demise of the player who, until his untimely departure, was plying his trade with Bossman Knights FC in the FKF Division Two Western Zone A branch.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of former Nzoia Sugar, Tusker, Bidco United, and Kakamega Homeboyz defender Gabriel Wandera,” KEFWA said.“Gabriel’s contribution to the game and his dedication on the pitch will always be remembered. His untimely passing following a tragic road incident is a painful loss to the football fraternity,” the KEFWA statement added.
News of his death comes after he was part of the team’s matchday squad on Saturday, April 18, 2026, against Kwirale.
The center-back was a household name in the Kenyan Premier League, marshalling the defense for Tusker FC, Bidco, and Nzoia Sugar, among others, during his most active days.In August 2024, he joined Kakamega Homeboyz, continuing his sustained spell in Kenya’s top-flight league for another year.
