Four Arrested in Ukunda Over British National’s Murder, Linked to String of Violent Robberies

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested four suspects in Ukunda in connection with the murder of a British national and a series of violent robbery incidents.

The suspects—Bernard Mbusu, Isaac Kinoti Kobia, Evans Muthengi Mutaki and Kelvin Mwangi Njoroge—were apprehended during an intelligence-led, multi-agency operation at Ideal Apartments in Ukunda.

The operation involved officers from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CR&IB) Headquarters, working jointly with teams from SCCIO Nyali and SCCIO Msambweni.

According to investigators, the arrests are linked to the abduction and subsequent murder of British national Campbell Scott Alistair in February 2025. His body was later discovered in Mukuyuni along the Machakos–Wote road.

The suspects are also being investigated over a robbery with violence incident involving an American national in Nyali, as well as another similar attack in Watamu, Malindi Sub-County, where forensic evidence has reportedly tied them to the crime scenes.

During a search at their residence, detectives recovered several items believed to be stolen, including an HP laptop, multiple mobile phones, assorted foreign currencies, credit cards, cheque books from various banks and point-of-sale (PDQ) machines.

Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) personnel processed the scene, with all recovered items secured as exhibits.

The suspects are currently being held at Nyali Police Station as investigations continue. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to establish the full extent of the group’s activities and identify any additional accomplices.
