Four Employees Charged With Defrauding CIC Insurance Of 7.4 Million

Four employees of CIC General Insurance Limited have been charged with conspiring to defraud the Insurance company of Ksh 7.4 million.

Andrew Manthi Mulwa, Patrick Mutio Mbevi, John Kimetu Willy, and Brinton Monda Mogaka, employees of CIC Insurance Ltd are said to have conspired to defraud their employer Ksh 7,411,000 on diverse dates between November 2021 and July 2022.

They were also charged with unlawfully making a CIC online auction report purporting it to be a genuine online auction report signed by CIC.

Appearing before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina, the accused denied the charges.

The prosecution told the court that the accused persons have since been sacked by CIC Insurance Limited and that their place of abode is unknown to the Investigating Officer hence releasing them on bail would be prejudicial to the fair administration of Justice.

However, the defense objected to the prosecution’s submissions saying the right of an accused person to be released on bail is enshrined in the constitution unless there were compelling reasons in which case the prosecution failed to provide any.

Convinced that the were no sufficient grounds to deny the accused bond, the Court released the accused persons on a bond of Ksh 300,000 with an alternative cash bail of Ksh 100,000.
