Fred Kerley Wins 100m Oregon Sprint Final

Kerley, in lane 4, trailed Marvin Bracy for 95 meters before outdipping his teammate to win in 9.86 seconds.

American Fred Kerley sprinted to victory in the men’s 100-meter race, leading the US to a victory at the World Championships in Oregon.

In a close race on Saturday at Eugene’s Hayward Field, Kerley, in lane 4, trailed Marvin Bracy for 95 meters before outdipping his teammate to win in 9.86 seconds.

After 1983 and 1991, Bracy won silver in 9.88 seconds and Trayvon Bromell won bronze, giving the United States its third straight 100-meter world championship clean sweep.

Christian Coleman, the fourth member of the potent US quartet, finished sixth (10.01) despite a strong start. Coleman is the current world champion from Doha in 2019 and was disqualified from the Tokyo Olympics for failing three doping tests.

After placing fifth in the semifinal of the 100-meter event on Sunday morning at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Oregon, Ferdinand Omanyala was unable to advance to the final.

The 100-meter champion from Africa clocked 10.14, missing out on the two automatic spots in the final.
