Kenya Transporters Association (KTA) and the entire road transporters fraternity have congratulated President William Ruto following their inauguration on Tuesday.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, KTA’s chairman Newton Wang’oo thanked Ruto for keeping his promise on the first day in office.
“We wish to thank you profusely for your remarks in your inauguration speech where you confirmed to the whole nation and the coastal town of Mombasa in particular, that you will forthwith issue a directive for importers to have the choice to clear their goods in Mombasa and revert other port related operations back to Mombasa,” he noted.
To operationalise this directive, according to Wang’oo, Kenya Ports Authority needs to vacate and reverse the illegal and unconstitutional order that they gave to the shipping lines in 2018 directing the shipping lines not to allow importers to nominate where they want their consignments cleared.
“This is to forestall the expected delay in execution of the executive order on grounds that KPA has not received official communication writing and cannot act on social media and TV reports,” he added.
During his inaugural speech, President Ruto assured coastal residents that he will revert port operations back to Mombasa in line with his campaign promise.
“This (Tuesday) afternoon I will be issuing instructions for clearing of goods and other attendant operation issues to revert to the port of Mombasa as I made a commitment to Kenyans,” he said.
