French giant inks Sh.160b Nakuru- Mau Summit deal

The deal will enable the Government of Kenya to upgrade the busy Rironi- Mai Mahiu Road, further enhancing the operations of the Naivasha Internal Container Depot.

It will also serve the proposed Industrial Park in Naivasha and ease traffic flow to Narok, South Western Kenya, and Northern Tanzania.

VINCI Consortium of France has signed the mega-deal to finance the construction of a 633 kilometers section of the Rironi- Mai Mahiu Road

The concession agreement forms part of the mega Nakuru to Mau Summit road.

The works include the construction of a 4-kilometer viaduct (elevated highway) through Nakuru Town, and construction and improvement of interchanges along the highway.

The mega project will enhance the faster movement of cargo in the Northern corridor to Uganda, DRC, and Rwanda.

This 233km project also includes strengthening and widening of the existing Rironi – Mai Mahiu – Naivasha road

Speaking during the signing of the contract, Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary Eng. James Macharia said the project will enhance infrastructure development in the region.

“The new highway will also improve traffic flows, reduce traffic accidents, and facilitate the proper management of heavy commercial vehicles.  The new road has also been designed to connect efficiently with the other traffic infrastructure systems currently in use and under construction.” CS Macharia said in a statement.

The project has been in the cards for some time and the finer duties were concluded two weeks ago.

The road is said to be another infrastructure masterpiece owing to the scarcity of road space. However, the government says it will lias with local engineers in the Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) to ensure the project is implemented to standard.

This project will cost KShs 160 billion and will be implemented under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) financing model
