Fresh Mental Assessment Ordered in KNH Murder Case

By Andrew Kariuki

The Kibera  High Court  has ordered a fresh mental evaluation for Kennedy Kalombotole, a patient accused of murdering a fellow patient at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

Lady Justice Diana Kavedza directed that a psychiatrist from KNH be granted access to the Nairobi Remand Prison to conduct the second assessment and submit a report before the court.

Kalombotole, who had been admitted at KNH since December 1, 2024, is accused of killing another patient, Edward Maingi Ndegwa, on July 11, 2025, while both were admitted at Ward 7B, Group C (Male).

The court’s order seeks to determine the accused’s mental fitness to stand trial as investigations into the incident continue.
