Fuel Pipeline Bursts In Kisumu, Kondele Bypass Closed

Written By John Mutiso  📝

Police in Kisumu have closed the Kondele-Airport bypass road to prevent the public from accessing the scene after diesel fuel spilled from a burst pipeline.

The pipeline that burst at around midnight has seen thousands of litres of diesel flow into the sprawling Kanyamedha estate.

Police authorities and those from KPC moved in swiftly to avert members of the public against siphoning the fuel as the cause of the midnight incident on the main KPC line remains unknown.

However, the line was later turned off by KPC engineers.

Kisumu Central sub-county Deputy County Commissioner Hussein Alason Hussein said officers from the Kisumu fire fighting department were mobilized and are presently helping in the operation, adding that despite being not too highly flammable, diesel is still dangerous.

To avoid a potential calamity, authorities have warned the public against siphoning the petroleum that is now pouring into river Kisat.
