Fuel Prices Remain Unchanged In New EPRA Review

EPRA announced on Sunday that fuel prices will remain unchanged for the next month, citing the government subsidy as a factor in Kenyans saving money at the pump.

Fuel prices in Kenya will remain unchanged for the second month in a row as the government cuts fuel subsidies to maintain current prices.

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced on Sunday that fuel prices will remain unchanged for the next month, citing the government subsidy as a factor in Kenyans saving money at the pump.

Without the subsidy, Kenyans would pay Ksh.214.03 per litre in Nairobi instead of the current Ksh.159.12, a Ksh.54.91 difference, according to EPRA Director General Daniel Kiptoo.

“The applicable pump prices for this cycle have been maintained as the ones applicable in the immediate previous cycle. The government will utilise the Petroleum Development Levy to cushion consumers from the otherwise high prices,” said Mr. Kiptoo.

Fuel prices remained unchanged in July for the first time in five months, as the government allocated an additional Ksh.16.7 billion to the fuel stabilisation mechanism.

“It is notified that his Excellency the President has today authorized an additional fuel subsidy of Ksh.16.7 billion so as to cushion Kenyans from a further increase in fuel prices. With today’s presidential action, diesel will continue to retail at Ksh.140, petrol at Ksh.159.12 and kerosene at Ksh.127.94,” stated State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena Mararo.
