Former Manchester United star left-back Gabriel Heinze has been sacked by Major League Soccer side, Atlanta United after just 13 games in charge, following Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to New England Revolution.
Confirming the surprising decision, top of the official statement from the American outfit read: “Atlanta United today (Sunday night) announced the club has relieved head Coach Gabriel Heinze of his duties, effective immediately. Assistant coach Rob Valentino will take over as interim head coach. A variety of issues relating to day-to-day leadership of the team led the club to this decision.”
Gabriel Heinze who had a fantastic spell with the Red Devils between 2004 and 2007 was appointed the head coach of the Five Stripes back in December, 2020, replacing Frank de Boer who left the club for the Netherlands national team, but he has since then struggled to anchor the team with him managing only two victories and four draws with a massive seven defeats and hence, forcing the club’s top brass to act.
On sacking the 43 year old, Atlanta United President Darren Eales said: “This was certainly not a decision we wanted to make at this point in our season, but it was the right one for the club.”
