Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has praised the people of Meru County for what he described as their courage and steadfastness during a tour by the United Opposition in the region.
He highlighted the county’s history of truthfulness, hard work, and resistance to deceit, emphasising that the community strongly rejects violence and empty promises.
In a statement shared on X on Friday, March 6, 2026, Gachagua reflected on the reception the opposition received and the resilience of local residents despite recent tensions and political unrest.
“Meru, the land of my Late Mother is known for courage, truthfulness, hard work and keeping promises. They hate violence,” Gachagua stated.

He talked about the community’s rejection of deception and fake leaders, noting that Meru residents have consistently stood for honesty and integrity in leadership.
“They detest lies and fake promises! They hate pretenders. Meru is strong,” he wrote.
Gachagua further described the challenges faced during the tour, including threats of violence and interference by what he called state-sponsored militia, yet praised the turnout of supporters who gathered to hear the opposition’s message.
“We braved on despite violence and state-sponsored militia by despots and spoke to the people who had waited for us in numbers,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude to his political allies from United Opposition allignment who joined him on the tour, acknowledging their collective effort in engaging communities ahead of the 2027 elections.
“On behalf of my brothers Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, Justin Muturi, and Mithika Linturi, we thank you for your warm welcome and support,” Gachagua wrote.
Finally, he signalled the formal start of the opposition’s preparations for the 2027 elections, setting a clear date for the political showdown.
Gachagua declared no doubt about the opposition’s intent to mobilise support and contest vigorously.
“On 10th August 2027 we have a date,” Gachagua concluded.
