The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) party leader Rigathi Gachagua now says the leaders who have ditched his party for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) were President Willam Ruto’s spies, saying he is working to weed out all disloyal members.
Speaking in Kilifi County on Monday during a 3-day party leaders’ retreat, Gachagua accused the UDA party of a desperate attempt to divide his party.
He came out guns blazing, after days of a sustained hemorrhage of some of his allies who have ditched his party for the ruling UDA party.
The former Deputy President responded to the latest exit of Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi, saying that he wanted a direct nomination yet the party has embraced democratic structures of awarding party nominations.
“He wanted a direct ticket and I told him there is no direct nomination. It is a democratic party. Even if you voted against my impeachment it does not guarantee you a direct nomination,” Gachagua noted.
He claimed that those who have left were simply UDA agents and the party will still remain firm despite some of its members opting to ditch camps.
The hemorrhage and political exodus from DCP has been coming thick and fast, with the former DP losing some of his key foot soldiers especially in the voter rich Mt. Kenya region.
They include, Githunguri MP Gathoni wa Muchomba, former Nyeri town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu and Maragwa legislator Mary Wamaua among others.
Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga has recently been sending mixed signals. His recent attendance of a UDA grassroots leaders’ meeting at the Sagana tate loLdge Nyeri, left his supporters jittery on his alliegance.
President Ruto and his deputy Kithure kindiki have combined a charm offensive in the Mt. Kenya region, turning the tide in the fight for the soul of the populous region ahead of the 2027 polls.
