The former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua through his Advocate Kibe Mungai has claimed that Judge Anthony Mrima is a close friend of Senate Speaker Amason Kingi.
Justice Mrima is one of the three judge bench handling DP Gachagua’s impeachment cases.
The ousted DP has laid the alleged close friendship between the Judge and the Senate Speaker as a basis for why the Judge should disqualify himself from the case.
Advocate Kibe Mungai painted a picture of alleged impropriety against Justice Mrima based on the alleged relationship he has had with Speaker Kingi.
“Whether perceptions or substantial, we are unable to proceed with this bench,” Mungai told the bench.
Chief Justice had earlier on empaneled Justices Eric Ogola, Anthony Mrima and Fredah Mugambi to hear and determine DP Gachagua’s impeachment petitions.
