Gachagua Party Wins in Narok as Masikonde Grabs MCA Seat

Douglas Twala Masikonde of the Democratic Change Party has won the Narok Town Ward by-election with 6,007 votes, defeating United Democratic Alliance candidate Robert Kanyinke Ole Kudate, who garnered 4,479. The results were announced after a tightly contested race to fill the seat left vacant following the death of MCA Lukas Kudate in February.

The by-election drew significant political attention, with parties viewing Narok Town as a symbolic and strategic battleground. UDA’s decision to field Kanyinke Ole Kudate, the late MCA’s eldest son, was widely interpreted as an attempt to consolidate sympathy and maintain influence in a region where political loyalties shift quickly.

Campaign tensions escalated on the final day of voting, when a heavy police presence blocked a planned rally by Rigathi Gachagua’s party. The move sparked anger among his supporters, who accused security agencies of interference. Despite the disruption, Masikonde’s victory signals growing momentum for DCP, which has been positioning itself as a rising force beyond its traditional footholds.
