The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has announced that it will not field a candidate in the upcoming Mbeere North Constituency by-election.
In a statement on Wednesday, September 10, DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua said the party has opted to support the Democratic Party (DP) candidate.
He explained that the decision was guided by fairness and respect for political partners under the United Opposition pact.
Gachagua noted that the Mbeere North seat had previously been held by a DP member and should rightfully remain with the party.
“In the spirit of collaboration and fairness under the united opposition and our resolve to unity ahead of the 2027 general elections, DCP shall support the Democratic Party (DP) in Mbeere North Constituency, acknowledging that the seat was previously held by DP and should rightfully be retained with our full support,” the statement read.
In addition, DCP confirmed that it will also rally behind opposition partners in two other contests, the Wiper candidate in Muumbuni Ward and the DAP-K candidate in Kabuchai/Chwele Ward in Bungoma County.
For the remaining by-elections, the party announced it will field its own candidates and embark on campaigns nationwide.
“For all other elective positions, DCP shall field candidates and mobilize fully to campaign, popularize, and seek votes under our party ticket. Even as we compete, we shall respect our opposition partners in those regions, mindful that democracy is the preserve of every Kenyan,” the statement added.
At the same time, Gachagua has delivered a warning to President William Ruto, demanding immediate action over the presence of foreign militias in Kenya.
In a statement, the former Deputy President expressed deep concern over Kenya’s security situation, particularly in northeastern regions.
Gachagua issued three demands to Ruto, including the immediate expulsion of Jubaland militia and all foreign militias from Kenyan territory.
He also called for the immediate reopening of learning institutions in Mandera that were closed due to invasion by Jubaland militia and terrorist groups, insisting that adequate security be provided to students without fail.
Gachagua further demanded that the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) be allowed to discharge their full constitutional mandate without interference from what he termed as corrupt individuals in the Executive.
“Mr. William Ruto, we are putting you on notice; Kenya’s territorial integrity is sacred. Our sovereignty is not negotiable.
“If you cannot defend the people and the Republic of Kenya from foreign invasion, not forgetting your bloody track record over the last three years, you know the honorable thing to do. Resign before the 2027 embarrassment that awaits you,” he stated.
