Gachagua Seeks Forgiveness Ahead of Impeachment Vote

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua publicly sought forgiveness from President William Ruto and the Kenyan public, as he faces an impending parliamentary vote that could lead to his impeachment.

Speaking with palpable emotion, Gachagua reached out to the Head of State, hoping to mend fences before the crucial showdown.

“I want to say to my brother, President William Ruto, if, in our zeal to work, I have wronged you, please find it in your heart to forgive me,” he expressed, reflecting on the mounting political pressures he has endured.

The Deputy President extended his apologies beyond the political realm, addressing anyone he may have unintentionally offended. Notably, he apologized on behalf of his spouse regarding her advocacy work for the boy child.

“If my spouse…has wronged you in any way, please find it in your heart to forgive her.”

Gachagua also acknowledged that his enthusiastic displays of gratitude toward voters might have inadvertently created discomfort within the administration.

“We did not mean bad; we were appreciating the people who voted for us,” he clarified.

This heartfelt plea comes at a precarious time, with Members of Parliament poised to determine Gachagua’s political future.

The impeachment motion against him was approved by the House on October 1, 2024, casting uncertainty over his role as Deputy President.
