Opposition political activity is set to unfold in parallel fronts today on Sunday, with Edwin Sifuna leading the Linda Mwananchi faction to Nakuru County as Rigathi Gachagua heads to Murang’a County.

The former Deputy President will begin his day by attending a church service at ACK Nyakagumo church, Maragua town.Later, he will hold ‘meet the people’ meetings in Maragua town, Kenol Town and Progas in Kabati.

This follows a public rally in Nairobi’s Dagoretti South on Saturday, where he led a grassroots mobilisation drive aimed at popularising the party while rallying support against William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In Dagoretti, the former Deputy President called on President William Ruto to lower the cost of fuel. He gave him a seven-day ultimatum to reduce fuel prices, warning of nationwide protests if the demand is not met.

Gachagua accused the President of reneging on campaign promises and burdening Kenyans with high fuel costs. On the other hand, the Linda Mwananchi faction of ODM is set to hold public engagements with its supporters in Nakuru today.

According to its itinerary, the brigade will start attend a church service at Kivumbini PAG Church in Nakuru Town East and later hold a political rally at Mazembe Grounds in Nakuru Town West till evening.

On Saturday, Siaya Governor James Orengo said he met the Luo Community in Nakuru to hold talks on the future of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

“As a principle of Linda Mwananchi, my message is very clear. I am in ODM to stay,” he wrote on X.

He vowed to not allow the gains made by the late party’s premier, Raila Odinga, to be eroded by the alleged infiltration of ill-willing persons to cripple the party.“I am committed to fighting from within to keep Baba’s spirit alive and ensure our party remains the voice of the people,” he added.

Other Linda Mwananchi principles among them Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino have vowed to fight for the party against an alleged takeover by the ruling party, the United Democratic Alliance.

The Linda Mwananchi faction is a breakaway political grouping within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) that emerged from internal disagreements over the party’s direction and its perceived cooperation with the government.

The faction brings together a section of ODM leaders who oppose any alignment with Ruto and the ruling coalition.

The faction was formed after a section of ODM leadership, associated with Oburu Odinga, signaled closer ties with the government.

This move triggered resistance from leaders who felt the party risked losing its identity and independence.
