Former Deputy President-turned-opposition ally Rigathi Gachagua declared unwavering support for Kalonzo Musyoka during a charged rally in Matuu on Tuesday.
The duo is leading a coalition of opposition forces preparing to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
Addressing hundreds of enthusiastic supporters en route to a mega rally scheduled for Friday in Machakos County, Gachagua assured residents that the Ukambani region stands firmly behind Kalonzo, the Wiper Party leader and seasoned political figure.
“Today, I am a very happy man. I will sleep peacefully because Kalonzo has a solid base,” said Gachagua, who had spent the night at Kalonzo’s Muuna residence in Mwingi, Kitui County.
He urged the region to remain loyal to the Wiper party and vote in party-aligned leaders during the next elections.
“If you elect leaders from many parties or independents, you will weaken Kalonzo’s authority at the negotiating table. Give him Wiper MPs only,” he emphasized.
Kalonzo, speaking shortly after, revealed that he had received a strong mandate from the Ukambani community to represent them in national coalition talks.
“Yesterday, I received an endorsement from my people to begin the journey to form the next government, and I am ready for the country’s top job,” Kalonzo said.
Joining them was DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa, who praised Kalonzo as a dependable ally. “If Kalonzo says he will stand with you, he will give you his full support,” he affirmed.
Friday’s Machakos rally will mark the first major joint appearance by the full lineup of opposition heavyweights—signaling a unified push to reclaim power and shape Kenya’s political future.
