Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has warned that the Mt Kenya region will rebel against any proposal that could recommend a handshake government embracing Azimio boss Raila Odinga.
This has led to a war of words between him and Odinga over the Bomas National Dialogue Committee (NDC), which met at Bomas and is now out to compile its findings report.
Odinga said the dialogue initiative was on track if only “this unfit Deputy President Gachagua would stop bad-mouthing it”.
However, Gachagua said on Inooro FM that “The dialogue will get Mr Odinga nowhere in his plan to enter government through the back door.”
Odinga had accused Gachagua of being not fit for the position due to his divisive utterances and segregation of communities and regions by equating government with that which serves only shareholders.
In retaliation, Gachagua said that Odinga was only using the dialogue committee to live up to his traditional reputation of returning to chaos after election defeats.
He assured that the talks would get him nowhere and put a condition on President William Ruto that if the talks end in a handshake, Mount Kenya will rebel.
“It is the unanimous position of the people of Mt Kenya that any talks that may lead to Mr Odinga being accommodated in government through a handshake arrangement will be resisted”.
DP Gachagua said the President had promised not to entertain any handshake plans with Raila and instead to steer the talks towards other issues.
He proposed that they be represented by Kimani Ichung’wa, who he believes cannot be a traitor and delegates community vigilance to him when out of the country.
