The Democrats for the Citizen Party (DCP) leader, Rigathi Gachagua, has unveiled businessman John Mwaura as the party’s candidate for the Kiambu gubernatorial seat ahead of the 2027 polls.
In a statement shared on his X account on Monday, April 20, 2026, Gachagua revealed that Mwaura has declared his interest in vying for the Kiambu governor seat under the DCP ticket.
“Our party, DCP, continues to grow exponentially across the country. Today, at the DCP Party Headquarters, I officially received one of the Kiambu County DCP Party aspirants, John Mwaura Kogi,” Gachagua stated.

“Congratulations, Mwaura, on your bold move to join the party with the interests of the people of Kenya at heart. I wish you the very best in your aspiration to be the Governor of the great county of Kiambu.”
He further asked the electorate to reject leaders aligned with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, accusing some of betraying the interests of residents.
Gachagua announced the launch of a political mobilisation campaign dubbed “Operation Fagia Kiambu”, aimed at unseating leaders he accused of betraying the electorate.
“Kiambu is home, and we should punish all leaders who have betrayed the community and those working with William Ruto. I will personally lead the ‘Fagia’ operations in the region,” Gachagua said.
The party’s commitment
The DCP leader stated that the party is committed to grassroots engagement, emphasizing that meaningful development can only be achieved through active public participation.
He said the party would continue to prioritize listening to citizens across the country in shaping its policies and leadership direction.
“As a party, we remain strong in our philosophy to listen to the people of Kenya. There can be no meaningful development in any society if it doesn’t involve the people. We endeavor to always be with the people of Kenya across all aspects every time,” Gachagua stated.
He urged aspirants to intensify grassroots mobilisation, adding that he would personally support them in campaigns.
“I will support you and attend your meetings when invited. In Thika, I am coming soon,” he said.
Cleophas Malala, the DCP Deputy Party Leader, said at least 71 parliamentary aspirants from Kiambu County have already registered with the party, and called on more leaders to enlist as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
