Gareth Southgate Names Final England Squad Before World Cup

With the Qatar 2022 World Cup fast approaching, Gareth Southgate has named his final squad before the tournament ahead of England’s upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures with Italy and Germany.

Ivan Toney has been named in the Three Lions’ squad for the first time with the Brentford forward rewarded for his excellent start to the season.

The 26-year-old – who was playing for League One Peterborough as recently as 2020 – has scored five goals in six Premier League games this season and will be given his chance to stake a claim for a World Cup place.

Dean Henderson, Nick Pope, and Aaron Ramsdale will compete for the goalkeeping position, with first-choice Jordan Pickford absent through injury.

Tottenham’s Eric Dier has also earned a recall after almost two years out the squad, though there’s no place for Manchester United duo Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, each of who face an uphill task to secure a place for Qatar.privacy settings

Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw are in the squad despite falling out of favour at Old Trafford this season. This is the last squad Southgate will name before his World Cup plans are finalised.
