A local administrator has warned that action will be taken against parents of children loitering in Garissa town and robbing residents.

Boaz Cherutich told the press in Garissa town that parents should be responsible for their children and always know where they are.

Crime has been on the rise in Garissa town in recent months, primarily committed by children who have dropped out of school.

Security officers have been working in the Mororo and Madogo areas of Tana River county to apprehend a gang of children known as Kayole.

Cherutich warned that parents of children arrested for crimes would be summoned to explain why their children had been neglected.

“A group of young children aged 10 to 14 are terrorizing and robbing town residents.” These children should be in school, and if we arrest any of them, we will go to their parents and ask them why they are not caring for their children,” he said.

“It is shameful that children in this town are robbing residents of their money, mobile phones, and other valuables, and their parents don’t care where they got those things.” We will make certain that this problem is resolved once and for all.”

Abdullahi Salat, chairman of Garissa Supkem, urged parents to raise their children well because the buck stops with them.
