Garissa Governor H.E. Ali Korane today told off politicians who were making political capital over the disaster that occurred at Soko Mugdi Market.
Addressing the Soko Mugdi Market Committee, the Governor said it was unfortunate and inhuman for anybody to make a political kill out of the crisis.
He said it was sad that fire had been frequently affecting the market owners and promised to find a lasting solution to the problem. He also promised to extend support to the affected victims.
“Some leaders had the opportunity to serve during their time and make better the situation of the market but now they are giving wild tales to the grieving victims,” said the Governor.
The Governor said it was paramount to have a well-planned market with access roads to help respond to any emergency.
He asked the committee to assess the damage and numbers of the affected stall owners and brief him ahead of his expected visit to the market.
The Governor assured them that nobody can dare take the market land that serve 1400 traders in Garissa where they derive their livelyhood. He further urged them to dispel the milling rumours.
The committee led by Market Owners Association chairman Billow Bashir, his Deputy Farah Noor and chairman of Clothes and Shoes Merchants Jesse Mugo thanked the Governor for his timely intervention and the support to the affected victims.
The meeting was also attended by CEC Finance and Economic planning Hon Issa Oyow, CEC Water and Irrigation Hon Abdi Omar, County Secretary Abdi M Ali and Deputy County Secretary Abdirashid Hussein.
