A student who caused fire in Moi Girls High School where ten students lost their lives in 1st September 2017 has been sentenced to 5 Years in jail.
She was convicted in December 2021, found guilty of manslaughter in ten counts.
Lady Justice Stella Mutuku stated in her decision that she followed all statutory provisions.
Given that the student committed the violation while she was still a juvenile, she will sentence her to five years in jail for each of the 10 charges, with the five years running concurrently.
She was 14 years old and in Form One at the time of the incident. She was placed in the Kabarnet dormitory, which was the site of the fire. The pupils had just returned to class.
The juvenile is believed to have committed the crime with others on the nights of September 1 and 2, 2017 at around 2:00 a.m.
51 pupils were hurt in the event and were transferred to Nairobi Women’s Hospital.
A total of 40 students were treated and released, while 11 were admitted. Three of them were seriously injured.Â
