The report reveals profound productivity gains, with knowledge workers saving a remarkable 5.5 million hours annually thanks to Google’s offerings, translating to an added $98 million in national productivity. Furthermore, over 300,000 young Kenyans have benefited from digital skills training provided through Google Search, improving their employability and readiness for the workforce.
Looking to the future, the report projects that artificial intelligence (AI) could contribute as much as $2.4 billion to Kenya’s economy by 2030. In light of this, experts emphasize the necessity for investment in AI, cloud computing, and robust digital connectivity to harness Kenya’s burgeoning digital potential.
Agnes Gathaiya, Google Kenya Country Director, commended the nation’s strides in digital transformation, highlighting the resilience and innovative spirit of its people. Stanley Kamanguya, CEO of the ICT Authority of Kenya, echoed these sentiments, noting Google’s substantial role in driving economic prosperity.
The report recommends that policymakers focus on enhancing STEM education, AI fluency, and digital infrastructure to best prepare the workforce for an AI-driven future, promising a bright horizon for Kenya’s digital economy.
