Gor Mahia Fans Free To Attend Home Matches As SDT Suspends FKF, Sports Kenya Sanctions

Gor Mahia fans will be free to attend their upcoming home games after the Sports Dispute Tribunal (SDT) lifted a five-game ban that was imposed on them by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).

Further, the SDT lifted a ban on use of the Kasarani Stadium that would last until the club paid Sports Kenya a Ksh 1.9 million fine for damages.

“It’s hereby ordered: That the 1st (FKF) and 2nd (Sports Kenya) Respondents be and are hereby restrained from imposing the sanctions contained in the 2nd Respondents letter dated 16th November 2023 pending the hearing and determination of the application,” SDT ruling reads.

Chaos erupted after Gor Mahia were held to a barren draw by Murang’a Seal on 11 November 2023.

A section of fans violently protested what they deemed biased officiating which saw Benson Omala’s first half goal denied for offside.

The irate fans targeted match officials uprooting and hurling seats at them as Police tried to restore.

The incident resulted in FKF slapping the club with a five-game ban and a fine of Ksh. 500,000.

Further, Sports Kenya fined the club Ksh. 1.9 million and prohibited them from using Kasarani Stadium until the amount is paid.

The club however moved to court to challenge the decisions.

“The 2nd and 3rd Respondent shall have seven (7) days after service upon them of the application to file their respective Responses. The matter shall be listed for mention for further directions on Wednesday 13th December 2023 at 2:30 pm via Microsoft Teams,” SDT directed.

Gor Mahia will next face Nzoia Sugar on Saturday.
