The government has released KSh.44 billion to ensure a smooth transition for 1.13 million students from junior to senior school, President William Ruto announced on Sunday.
Speaking at a church service at Covenant Church International in Rotian, Narok County, the President assured parents that schools would access the funds before the start of the new term, guaranteeing that no child would miss the opportunity to advance.
“I want to assure parents across Kenya and all stakeholders that we have made adequate arrangements for schooling in the next year. No child will miss the opportunity to go to Senior school in January,” he said.
President Ruto highlighted that the government has hired a total of 100,000 teachers since 2023, built 23,000 classrooms, and is completing 1,600 laboratories by March 2026. He said these measures address previous challenges with Competency Based Education and Training.
He warned politicians against introducing petty politics into children’s education and clarified that the education budget has not been reduced as claimed by some leaders. He challenged his competitors to present their track record and policy plans rather than rely on propaganda.
The President also detailed broader development initiatives. These include the establishment of the National Infrastructure Fund and the Sovereign Wealth Fund to accelerate Kenya’s development, efforts to expand Universal Health Coverage through the Social Health Authority, and ongoing projects in Narok County.
Among county-specific interventions, President Ruto announced the handover of the Mau Forest title deed to the Narok government, the return of 10,000 acres of Kedong land to residents, and plans for an international airport. The government has allocated KSh1.5 billion for electricity connections, KSh1.5 billion for 14 modern markets, KSh6 billion for affordable housing, and KSh2.5 billion for student hostels to accommodate 5,000 pupils.
Governor Ken Lusaka praised the President’s development record, saying the country is experiencing unprecedented transformation. Governor Glady Wanga and Narok Senator Ledama ole Kina reaffirmed their commitment to working with the Kenya Kwanza government under a broad-based leadership to ensure inclusive development.
