The government has announced the cancellation of 900 birth certificates issued in multiple serial number ranges due to an error at the Mutomo Registration Office.
The State Department of Immigration Services released the directive on Tuesday, October 15, via its MyGov publication, urging immediate returns of the invalidated documents.
The affected certificates lie within specific serial number ranges: 1502001-1502900.
Individuals in possession of these documents are required to return them to the Civil Registration Services at Hass Plaza, Nairobi, for proper disposal.
Paul Mwangemi, Acting Secretary of Civil Registration Services, emphasized the importance of returning the invalid certificates, warning that retaining them would render them unusable.
This cancellation follows closely on the heels of a recent incident involving nearly 400 missing title deeds, with the government also distancing itself from liability for any unauthorized transactions related to the lost documents.
On September 27, the Office of the Head of Public Service revealed that 366 title deeds, bearing serial numbers 5253001 to 5253367, were reported missing, raising serious concerns about the management and security of such vital records.
