Government Imposes Dusk-to-Down Curfew in Trans Mara Amid Ongoing Ethnic Clashes.

The Government, through Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Trans Mara West and South in Narok county, due to Recent rising unrest in the area.

Speaking on Saturday, DIG Lagat stated that the curfew starts from 6pm, noting that the regions are now considered disturbed areas and a special operation is ongoing to restore calm.

Tribal clashes have been witnessed in the said regions leading to the death of civilians and displacement of thousands.

In Trans Mara South, areas of Angata Barakoi, Ololoma, Isokon,Oldonyo-Orok, Siteti,Corner, Ratiki, Kerinkani, Kondamet, Olkiloriti, Kapkeres, Lolgorian town, Mashangwa, Sachangwan will observe the curfew.

DIG Lagat also noted that the curfew will be imposed in Nkararu in Trans Mara west.

Further the DIG Lagat instructed all individuals with illegal firearms to surrender the weapons within 72 hours or be delt with upon failure to.

Over 1,800 people have been displaced in Angata Barikoi according to the Kenya Red Cross report in just three days.

The clashes between the Kipsigis and Maasai communities have left tens of people dead, property destroyed, including the torching of homes within the areas.

DIG Lagat on Friday warned politicians inciting and financing the recent fight between two communities and appropriate actions will be taken.
