Kenyans will be able to obtain reasonable loans to purchase homes, according to Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary Charles Hinga.
The PS said that the government will cooperate with the National Housing Corporation (NHC) to provide residents a house-ownership plan with a 7% interest rate.
“We’ll work with NHC to determine how many units we can buy and then offer the tenant purchase scheme,” he explained.
He was speaking in Mombasa on Monday, where he was inspecting a Sh6 billion housing project in the Buxton region.
He also mentioned that the government was investigating the use of social housing, particularly for one-bedroom homes.
According to him, 565,000 units have been reported in the national building data.
