The government has launched a new initiative to provide soft loans to young Kenyans seeking employment opportunities abroad, particularly in Dubai and Europe.
Speaking at Taita Taveta National Polytechnic today, Labour Principal Secretary (PS) Shadrack Mwadime urged the youth to take advantage of the initiative, which aims to ease financial barriers for those pursuing jobs overseas.
The program, in partnership with KCB Bank Voi, will offer loans at a single-digit interest rate. Youth heading to Gulf countries can access loans between KSh 300,000, while those traveling to Europe can get up to KSh 650,000.
Additionally, the government is providing KSh 185,000 through the Youth Fund, repayable over six months, to further support job seekers.
“The government is committed to empowering our youth by providing financial support for employment opportunities abroad,” PS Mwadime said.
He also emphasized the importance of acquiring a valid motorcycle license, which is a key requirement for riders seeking jobs in Dubai.
The recruitment process, which includes documentation and interviews, is set to continue until next Monday, offering more young Kenyans a chance to secure positions in fields such as construction, security, and delivery services.
Over 100 young people attended the event, eager to process documents and undergo interviews for various job opportunities.
With high youth unemployment rates in Kenya, the initiative is expected to provide a significant boost for job seekers looking for greener pastures abroad.
The government has assured applicants of streamlined processes to ensure smooth job placements in international markets.
