Julius Bitok, Principal Secretary of State for Immigration and Citizenship has said that Huduma Namba will be replaced by a Unique Personal Identifier (UPI).
“The Huduma Namba did not work out, but we are going to replace it with a Unique Personal Identifier, and if a child is born, he will use that number from birth until his or her demise,” he explained.
He stated that the service would be added to the E-citizen portal.
Ambassador Bitok urged Kenyans to report births and deaths so that the government can plan for the country’s population.
Bitok spoke on Friday afternoon in Kaguru, South Imenti, where he dedicated a civil registration office.
Bitok said only 55 percent of Kenyans register births leading to a backlog of court cases due to succession matters.
He said it’s important to register both birth and deaths.
