Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Geoffrey Ruku has assured public servants that the government is committed to addressing longstanding issues affecting their welfare, including delayed promotions and poor working conditions.
Speaking at the Rift Valley Regional Commissioner’s grounds in Nakuru during a service delivery inspection, Ruku emphasized that the government is working to build a more responsive and inclusive public service aligned with the values enshrined in Article 232 of the Constitution of Kenya.
“We are streamlining concerns raised by public servants to create a fairer, more motivated workforce. A functional and professional public service is a vital pillar for national development and effective governance,” Ruku stated.
He acknowledged that challenges such as stalled career progression have undermined morale in the public sector and pledged that President William Ruto’s administration is taking concrete steps to resolve them.
Ruku urged public officers to discharge their duties with professionalism, humility, and integrity, reminding them that they are custodians of public trust. “Public officers must put the public good before their own and serve all Kenyans equally without fear or favour,” he said.
The CS also underscored the importance of transparency, efficiency, and accountability in service delivery, highlighting efforts to decentralize services through Huduma Centres to enhance access and responsiveness across counties.
He affirmed that citizen feedback is central to the Kenya Kwanza administration’s reform agenda. “The government takes feedback from Kenyans seriously, which is why we place a high premium on public participation,” Ruku added.
His remarks come amid a broader government push to revamp public service and strengthen public confidence through institutional reforms and improved service delivery.
