Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has pledged support to the family of popular influencer Mariam Antonet Lwande, known to many as Digida, following her untimely death.
In a statement on Wednesday, October 29, Nassir mourned Digida as a beloved figure whose impact extended far beyond Mombasa.
“We have lost one of Mombasa’s brightest and most beloved personalities. Mariam Antonet Lwande, fondly known to many as Digida, brought laughter, light, and authenticity to our social circles and online spaces.
“Her vibrant energy and relatable charm connected her deeply with the people of Mombasa and beyond,” he said.
Nassir announced that the County Government would clear her hospital bills and offer assistance to her family as they mourn the loss.
“On behalf of the County Government and the people of Mombasa, I extend heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and the entire creative community.
“The County Government has made the decision to offset her hospital bills. We will stand with the family during this trying time. Indeed, to The Almighty we belong and to Him we shall return,” he added.
Tributes have since poured in from fans and fellow influencers, who described her as genuine, cheerful, and endlessly creative.
Digida ran a catering business in Mombasa and was often spotted with Kenyan celebrities including Bien, Masauti and Cassypool, as well as political leaders including Aisha Jumwa and Principal Secretary Fikirini Jacobs.
