Governor Kawira Mwangaza Picks Lawyer Danstan Omari To Represent Her In Impeachment Case

The embattled Meru Governor, Kawira Mwangaza has officially appointed the Law Firm of Danstan Omari and Associates to represent her in the County Assembly hearing of her proposed impeachment scheduled to take place tomorrow October 25, 2023, at the County Assembly of Meru.

In a letter dated October 24, the said Law firm confirmed to the County Assembly of Meru through the speaker that they would be representing Governor Kawira in the hearing.
This development underlines the deepening crisis in Meru County, with the governor facing her second impeachment attempt in less than a year.

Out of the 69 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), a substantial majority of 57 have declared their support for the impeachment, demonstrating a strong push against the embattled governor.

Last year, the governor faced an impeachment by the assembly, but her removal was thwarted by the Senate’s intervention.
Josphat Murangiri, the Secretary-General of Njuri Ncheke, has accused Mwangaza of operating independently, which has led to the support for her impeachment.
He argued that her actions have further exacerbated divisions within Meru County.
