Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has asked residents of his county who may have been affected by the Londiani crash to contact her office.
Speaking during a Thanksgiving service at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Molo, Kihika said anyone affected should notify her office so that the county can fully cover the hospital bills.
Kihika expressed sympathy for the Kenyans who were involved in the grisly accident.
“I know a lot of our people from Kamara and Molo were caught up in that. For some of those families we said they should be brought to our hospitals and we have been able to use Molo Hospital and PGH,” Kihika said.
“Nakuru I think we had 12 and if there is any family from Nakuru that has a victim in that accident I would like my office to know so that we can cater for all the expenses,” she added.
So far, 52 people have died in the Friday evening accident, and several others have been hospitalised.
The accident happened on Friday evening at Londiani along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway when a truck driver lost control of his vehicle while attempting to avoid colliding with a stationary bus.
According to witnesses, the truck, which had a Rwandan registration number plate, ploughed into eight vehicles, including matatus, personal vehicles and a motorbike.
