Governor Mwangaza Chooses Ruto Top Lawyers for Impeachment Proceedings

Mwangaza appeared before the special committee on Tuesday, December 27, accompanied by two lawyers, one of whom was a familiar face during the election campaign.

With the special Senate Committee hearing for Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza’s impeachment motion still ongoing, she handpicked a team of vibrant and experienced lawyers to represent her case.

Mwangaza appeared before the special committee on Tuesday, December 27, accompanied by two lawyers, one of whom was a familiar face during the election campaign.

One of the lawyers accompanying the governor was Elias Mutuma, a lawyer who previously represented President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in high-level cases in the run-up to and after the August 9 elections.

Mutuma defended the governor vehemently against Meru Members of Parliament (MCAs) who had twice voted to impeach her before the motion was tabled before the Senate for consideration.

The lawyer urged the Senate to dismiss the impeachment, claiming that his client was a victim of the Meru MCAs’ witchhunt.

Mutuma, on the other hand, has been a key lawyer in President William Ruto’s UDA party, having represented the party in a case challenging the use of electronic voter registration in the August 9 polls.
